Vinyl siding cracks at the nail hem
Why it happens here
Vinyl expands and contracts with temperature changes. If it's nailed too tight, it has nowhere to go and cracks. Blue Ash Town Center sees frequent swings from below freezing to mild in a single week, which accelerates the problem. Homes built in the 1990s and 2000s are especially prone.
Our approach
We replace the cracked panels and re-nail the surrounding siding with the correct gap. We also check the starter strip and J-channel, since those are often the root cause. If we find widespread cracking, we'll discuss whether a full replacement makes more sense.
